Stephen Disson
President, Disson Skating

Disson Skating, based in Washington, DC, was founded in 2001 by the company’s President, Stephen Disson, a sports marketing veteran who has been in the business since 1976. Formerly in partnership with IMG, and prior to that a principal in Disson, Furst & Partners, D&F Group and ProServ, Disson is recognized as one of the top sports marketing executives in the country. In 2006, Disson partnered with Comcast-Spectacor in a joint-venture to continue to produce eight two-hour original ice skating/entertainment specials nationally for NBC.

International Figure Skating Magazine has acknowledged Disson as one of the 25 most influential individuals in skating. Disson, a Wharton undergraduate and graduate school alum and Philadelphia-area native, has created and produced over 200 made-for-television specials. Disson received his first Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 2005 for the show entitled “Scott Hamilton and Friends.”

In addition to these network figure skating entertainment specials, Disson has created and produced both international and national televised sporting events in basketball (the first ever NBA All-Star Basketball Tours in Europe and Japan), beach volleyball (The Flamingo Hilton WPVA Beach Volleyball Tour), cycling (The Sundance Grand Prix Track Cycling Series and The Michelob US/USSR Challenge), golf (The Pizza-La LPGA Match Play Championship), gymnastics (The Hilton Superstars of Gymnastics and Hilton US/China/Belarus Challenge), tennis (The Dupont All-American Tennis Championships and The Suntory Cup in Japan), and Olympic related events (The Korbel Night of Champions and The Bud Ice Challenge featuring the 1980 US Gold Medal-winning Hockey Team against the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni Team).

Disson also negotiated on behalf of his corporate clients international and national tour sponsorships in the arts and entertainment world including: Visa sponsorship of the national tour of A Chorus Line, Chrysler New Yorker’s sponsorship of the national tour of Guys and Dolls, Jeep Cherokee’s sponsorship of the national tour of Will Rogers Follies, Johnny Walker Black’s sponsorship of the national tour of City of Angels, Bausch + Lomb and Korbel’s sponsorship of the national tour of Damn Yankees, MCI’s sponsorship of the national tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber starring Michael Crawford, Fuji Xerox’s sponsorship of the national tour in Japan of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber starring Sarah Brightman, and Xerox’s sponsorship of the Quincentenary Exhibit Seeds of Change at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.

Alyssa Shane

Alyssa Shane
Director of Event Management & Sponsorships, Disson Skating

A passion for sports and the nitty-gritty details of putting on events led Alyssa Shane into the sports and event management industry, but not before a brief stop planning events in downtown NY for the financial world.  While rewarding, she hoped to be able to plan events with the benefit of hearing the “roar of the crowd”, which she learned to greatly appreciate during her collegiate years at Indiana University.

While pursuing and completing a Masters of Tourism Administration with a specialty in Sports Management and Marketing she added to her collegiate Athletic Department involvement by working in the Sports Information office of The George Washington University, and later for the 2003 World Figure Skating Championships in Washington, DC, with a total of just four staff members and numerous volunteers.  The event and post-event wrap-up complete, Shane joined Disson Skating where she has had the pleasure of working with skaters, entertainers, sponsors, and an amazing production team on more than 60 NBC skating and entertainment specials.

Shane works with Steve Disson on sponsorship sales for the 8 annual shows, with Pete Bockelman on sponsor fulfillment, and is responsible for a number of the essential details and logistics involved in taking care of the numerous cast members, staff, and crew at each event.
